McLean, VA — June 12, 2018 — Meeting all capabilities outlined within Gartner’s Market Guide for Information Stewardship Applications this year, BackOffice Associates, the worldwide leader in information governance and data stewardship solutions, today announced that it has been identified as a Representative Vendor in the report. The company was assessed among a list of vendors in the information stewardship application market for the third year in a row. This year, the company met all of the capabilities listed in the Market Guide, including: Information Model, Business Glossary, Data Quality Monitoring and Profiling, Analytics, Workflow/Exception and Task Management, Business Rules and Policy Management, Audit Trail/Corporate Memory, Playbooks or Preloaded Templates, and Integration.
Gartner defines information stewardship applications as “business solutions used by business users acting in the role of information steward. For the most part, these developing solutions represent a combination of a number of disparate, previously IT-centric tools that are already on the market. They are, however, organized and presented in such a way that information stewards can support the work of information policy enforcement — as part of their normal, business-centric day-to-day work — in a range of use cases.”
“Today’s global organizations must harness the collective data knowledge of their business users by establishing best-practice information stewardship and governance initiatives across departments and systems worldwide,” said Rex Ahlstrom, Chief Strategy and Technology Officer, BackOffice Associates. “We believe that Gartner’s inclusion of BackOffice Associates in this report again demonstrates our market success and innovation in helping today’s leading businesses collaboratively set, enforce and execute data policies that lead to successful business outcomes.”
The report states that, “the information steward is a critical role that establishes and enforces guidelines for data collection, integration and processes. Information stewards work with data engineers to understand the characteristics of data, find correlations, catalog the data and apply semantic dimensions. The steward is responsible for monitoring information assets and people against those policies. When deviations from policy are detected and not resolved through automated means, the steward is the focal point for issue resolution.”
Additionally, according to the report, “In the long term, we expect to see information stewardship applications mature and become more distinct for business rather than IT users. They are also likely to be deployed to drive more-effective MDM, ADM and analytic governance (e.g., governing data in a data lake, data warehouse or logical data warehouse).”
BackOffice Associates’ information governance solutions enable global organizations to comprehensively manage data as a business asset by overseeing and orchestrating all governance and stewardship business processes.
