As HR focus is becoming a more prevalent line of business, we understand that HR data migration projects require 100% accurate data from Day 1 of go-live. Josh Bersin, Founder of Bersin by Deloitte describes it perfectly in his session at the HR Technology Conference, “You only get one chance to present your analytics and if the data isn’t right, you lose all credibility”.
So lets face it, incorrect conversions cause direct impacts to employee paychecks, benefit coordination, organization and time management, job classifications and more. If these problems are allowed to become widespread, they can lead to an implementation “disaster” with effect on the entire enterprise. Fortunately, clients are increasingly aware of the importance of Business-Ready Data, and they recognize that a data migration strategy should provide not only a technical solution but also a business solution.
Like many members of organizations attending the HR Technology Conference, we all face several key challenges in HR data migrations, including:
- Organization structure must be collected across all sites and countries
- Complex master data must be mapped and validated in the new system
- Conversion must support multiple end-to-end test cycles with real data
- Cutover must be managed to minimize disruption to the payroll process
How do you combat these challenges? Make sure HR data is solution ready by ensuring the data that supports the target HR configuration has zero loading errors. For example, all employees should have a complete record with no default or missing values. Ensure your data is business relevant (i.e., all employees are paid in the current year and have accurate job descriptions) and that it’s business-ready (i.e., employee salary is within a defined job classification range).
We also hear from many of our customers that they are looking to further bolster theirstrategic HR function by implementing new analytics solutions. If the underlying data in your ERP system is not correct, you will not be able to rely on the KPIs, dashboards and reports that come out of these new solutions, so ensuring that you have a solid data governance strategy and technology in place is crucial as well.
